AI Data Demands Shift Focus to Bringing Compute Closer to Data

As AI adoption grows across industries, especially healthcare, the challenge of accessing massive datasets quickly and securely has come into sharp focus. Without the right data infrastructure, even the most advanced AI models can be slowed by inefficient pipelines. At VB Transform 2025, experts from PEAK:AIO and Solidigm highlighted innovations in storage solutions tailored for medical AI.

Central to this evolution is the Medical Open Network for AI (MONAI), an open-source framework for medical imaging AI developed with King’s College London. MONAI supports on-premises deployments, enabling hospitals to maintain patient data privacy while running high-performance AI for diagnostics and research. This requires fast, scalable storage that balances capacity and input/output speed.

Solidigm provides ultra-high-capacity flash storage, while PEAK:AIO delivers software-defined storage optimized for AI workloads. Together, they enable hospitals to store millions of CT scans on compact systems and maintain real-time inference capabilities without sacrificing performance or security.

PEAK:AIO’s software-defined layer integrates memory as part of the infrastructure, reducing bottlenecks by keeping critical data “live” for efficient AI processing. This approach is also spreading beyond hospitals into greenfield data centers and edge deployments, where bringing compute closer to data ensures GPUs remain fully utilized.

The future of AI infrastructure lies in smarter, localized data handling—maximizing speed, efficiency, and scalability to meet the soaring demands of enterprise AI.
