Snapchat Tests New Five-Tab Redesign Amid User Decline in North America

Snapchat is experimenting with a refined five-tab interface following a reversal of last year’s proposed three-tab design. This change comes after the company reported a decline of 1 million daily users in its key North American market during Q1 2025.

Globally, Snapchat’s daily active users reached 422 million, with North America remaining its most valuable region, generating an average revenue of $6.83 per user compared to under $1 in other territories.

The new design retains five main tabs—Map, Stories, Camera, Chat, and Spotlight—aimed at improving navigation and user engagement. Snap notes that its most active users prefer the five-tab layout for easier access to features like tile-based discovery and the Map.

Notably, the redesign integrates more Stories content into the chat screen and places Spotlight adjacent to the camera button, potentially increasing creator visibility and user retention. However, Snapchat continues to trail competitors TikTok and YouTube in creator compensation and reach.

Snap has not provided a timeline for the full rollout of the redesign but indicated further enhancements to Stories and Spotlight are planned to stem user and creator attrition.

Despite the North American user drop, Snapchat reported a 14% year-over-year revenue increase to $1.36 billion, driven by robust advertising sales and its Snapchat Plus subscription. Global daily active users climbed to 460 million.
