YouTube plans to bring its latest AI video generation model, Veo 3, to its Shorts platform later this summer, as revealed during a Cannes Lions keynote by CEO Neal Mohan. Veo 3 is an advancement over the previous Veo 2 model, which Shorts creators currently use to generate backgrounds with Dream Screen and standalone video clips.
While Mohan did not provide detailed features, he highlighted Veo 3’s improved video quality and its capability to incorporate audio, suggesting these enhancements will benefit Shorts users. It remains unclear whether creators will need to pay for Veo 3 access on Shorts, as generating videos with the model currently requires a subscription to Google’s AI Pro or AI Ultra plans.
Shorts continue to see impressive engagement, with Mohan announcing that the platform now averages over 200 billion views daily. This move signals YouTube’s commitment to integrating advanced AI technologies into its short-form video offerings to further empower creators and boost viewer interaction.
